Silvercoin 1,5 kg Münze PP Malta 2022 – Enthauptung Johannes

Exclusive issue by the Central Bank of Malta – a coin made of pure silver, weighing 1500 grams. Minted in a limited run of only 100 pieces, this coin is the heaviest silver euro coin ever produced. It is crafted from solid sterling silver and encased in a handcrafted original Baroque wooden frame, reflecting the style of the era in which the masterpiece was created.

The coin is dedicated to one of the most famous artists in the world, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. His painting, *The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist*, created in 1608 in Malta using oil on canvas, is considered one of the most important works of Western art and one of the top ten greatest artworks of all time. The painting was commissioned by the Knights of Malta as an altarpiece and still hangs in St. John's Co-Cathedral, for which it was originally commissioned and where Caravaggio himself once served as a knight.

Diese Münze wurde in einer limitierten Auflage von nur 100 Stück geprägt und ist die schwerste jemals produzierte Silber-Euromünze. Sie ist aus massivem Sterlingsilber gefertigt und in einen handgefertigten originalen barocken Holzrahmen eingefasst, der den Stil der Epoche widerspiegelt, in der das Meisterwerk geschaffen wurde.
Die Münze ist einem der berühmtesten Künstler der Welt gewidmet, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Sein Gemälde „Die Enthauptung Johannes des Täufers“, das 1608 in Malta in Öl auf Leinwand entstand, gilt als eines der wichtigsten Werke der westlichen Kunst und als eines der zehn größten Kunstwerke aller Zeiten. Das Gemälde wurde von den Malteserrittern als Altarbild in Auftrag gegeben und hängt noch immer in der St. John's Co-Cathedral, für die es ursprünglich in Auftrag gegeben wurde und wo Caravaggio selbst einst als Ritter diente.
