Beautiful coin commemorating the world famous statue David by Michelangelo. It has an antique finish and high relief. Only 500 of these adorable 2oz silver coins were created.
  Michelangelo's (1475–1564) David, created in Florence between 1501 and 1504, is the first monumental statue of the High Renaissance and is considered the most famous sculpture in art history. The original, carved from a single block of marble, has been in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence since 1873. The 5.17 meter high figure is estimated to weigh almost six tons.
In 1501, the 26-year-old Michelangelo received the commission for a colossal statue of David. As early as 1464 a sculptor had been commissioned to create a David figure from the marble block, and another artist in 1476. Both sculptors had abandoned the work, leaving the massive block in a roughly hewn state. Michelangelo was now to complete the plan made by the Domopera almost forty years earlier to add a David to the figure program on the outer buttresses of Santa Maria del Fiore.
The sculpture depicting David preparing to fight Goliath was placed in Piazza della Signoria in 1504 as a symbol of the Florentine Republic against whose enemies David watches.
The sculpture represents the biblical David at the moment when, with his slingshot already loaded and the sling still on his shoulder, he is about to take on the giant Goliath. David's body appears in an actually relaxed contrapposto position. The battle-ready tension can be seen in the protruding veins of the right hand enclosing the projectile, but above all in the neck and face: in the taut tendons of the neck, the tense lips and nostrils, the furrowed brow. David's gaze is fixed on a point in the distance.
On September 8, 1504, the sculpture was unveiled in front of the Palazzo Vecchio.

Wunderschöne Münze zur Erinnerung  an die weltberühmte Statur David von Michelangelo. Sie hat ein antikes Finish und ein High Relief. Lediglich 500  dieser bezaubernden 2oz-Silbermünzen wurden geschaffen.  

 Der David von Michelangelo (1475–1564), zwischen 1501 und 1504 in Florenz entstanden, ist die erste Monumentalstatue der Hochrenaissance und gilt als die bekannteste Skulptur der Kunstgeschichte. Das aus einem einzigen Marmorblock gehauene Original befindet sich seit 1873 in der Galleria dell’Accademia in Florenz. Die 5,17 Meter hohe Figur wiegt schätzungsweise fast sechs Tonnen.

1501 erhielt der 26-jährige Michelangelo den Auftrag für eine kolossale Davidstatue.  Bereits 1464 war ein Bildhauer damit  beauftragt worden, aus dem Marmorblock eine David-Figur zu schaffen, sowie 1476 ein weiterer Künstler. Beide Bildhauer hatten die Arbeit aufgegeben und den wuchtigen Block in grob behauenem Zustand hinterlassen. Michelangelo sollte nunmehr den fast vierzig Jahre zuvor von der Domopera gefassten Plan vollenden, das Figurenprogramm der äußeren Strebepfeiler von Santa Maria del Fiore durch einen David zu ergänzen.

Die Skulptur, die David in Vorbereitung auf den Kampf gegen Goliath zeigt, wurde 1504 auf der Piazza della Signoria aufgestellt, als Symbol der Florentiner Republik, gegen deren Feinde David wacht.

Die Skulptur stellt den biblischen David in dem Augenblick dar, in dem er, die Steinschleuder bereits geladen, den Riemen noch auf der Schulter abgelegt, den Kampf gegen den Riesen Goliath aufnimmt. Davids Körper erscheint in einer eigentlich entspannten Kontrapost-Stellung. Die kampfbereite Spannung wird in den hervorstehenden Adern der rechten Hand erkennbar, die das Wurfgeschoss umschließt, vor allem aber in der Nacken- und Gesichtspartie: in den straffen Halssehnen, den angespannten Lippen und Nasenflügeln, der gerunzelten Stirn. Davids Blick ist auf einen Punkt in der Ferne gerichtet.

Am 8. September 1504 wurde die Skulptur vor dem Palazzo Vecchio feierlich enthüllt.
